Description
The Unitarian Chapel, located on High Street, is an early 19th-century building, although it was founded in 1774. It is set back from the street between Nos 9 and 10. The chapel is constructed of deep red brick and features two storeys. Its façade includes a full-width brick pediment with painted coping and a deep stucco frieze, which has a projecting central panel decorated with a Chinoiserie incised pattern.
There are three Gothic windows with intersecting glazing bars, with the central window being wider and having a continuous block sill on the first floor. The windows are topped with rubbed brick arches set on thin stucco imposts. The entrance consists of central double doors with fielded panels and a blind pointed fanlight that also has intersecting glazing bars. The door is framed by panelled reveals and soffit, and is surrounded by a stucco architrave with flanking colonettes and a roll moulded arch above.
