Description

The Solent Hotel, located at No. 7 Monkton Street, dates from around 1830. This two-storey building features a stucco facade and a gable end slate roof, with the eaves concealed by a cornice and a crested parapet. It has three windows, two of which are in a bow shape that spans both storeys, with a decorative band between them. The windows are recessed and are sash style, with most of the glazing bars still intact. The bow has original French windows with marginal glazing bars on both floors, and the first floor includes an Anthemion iron balcony. There are later extensions to the east of the building.
