Description

The bridge at Gatcombe House is a Grade II listed structure dating from the mid-18th century. It was originally part of the carriage drive to Gatcombe House. The bridge is constructed of tooled ashlar and features splayed ends with stone coping. It has a semi-circular arch with a keystone on the north side, which was the most visible side, and a flat arch facing south. Although the carriage drive has since been relocated to the other side of the house, an engraving from around 1808 illustrates that this bridge was once the original approach to Gatcombe House.
