Description

This is a former stable block situated on the Gatcombe estate, dating from the 18th century with alterations made in the mid-19th century and the 20th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone from the Isle of Wight, with a white brick parapet and stone dressings. It is two storeys and has attics, featuring six windows in total. A central pediment, topped with an oculus (a circular opening), rises the full height of the building. Originally open, the pediment was filled in during the late 19th century with two round-headed windows and two doorcases. The wing on the right has two 12-pane sash windows on the first floor, and two sashes and two doorways on the ground floor. The left wing has had 20th-century garage doors inserted. The rear of the building has 19th-century sash windows without glazing bars. There are set-back, lean-to additions on each side.
