Description
Gatcombe Mill is a water mill dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of greensand stone rubble with red brick dressings. The left side of the building has a slate roof, while the right side has been covered with corrugated iron sheeting. The mill consists of two sections, with the right side featuring two storeys and the left side having one to two storeys.
On the right side, there is a four-light cambered casement window on both the ground and first floors. The left side has cambered casements on the ground floor, but the first floor features 20th-century windows. The left side also includes a doorcase with a wooden architrave and a six-panel door, where the top two panels are glazed, along with an iron door knocker. The right side has a cambered architrave with a plank door, and the elevation features casement windows along with a mid-19th century lean-to porch made of brick, which has a slate roof and a four-plank Dutch door with iron hinges.
The one-storey portion on the left side has a cambered doorcase with a plank door and two casement windows. At the rear, there is an iron mill wheel. Inside, the mill retains an iron spur wheel with wooden teeth.
