Description

Fort Victoria is a former fort built between 1852 and 1855, now serving as a marine aquarium, cafeteria, and public conveniences. It was constructed due to the invasion fears of the 1840s. The fort has a triangular shape with two seaward batteries that meet at a right angle. It is made of brick and features a series of cambered brick arches, although some of these arches have been filled in with 20th-century brickwork to create visitor facilities. What remains today is a fragment of the original fort.
