Description

The building is the administrative offices of the former Camp Hill Prison, constructed around 1912. It is made from concrete blocks, which are shaped into quoins at the corners and are reported to have been made by prisoners from nearby Parkhurst Prison. The roof is hipped and covered with asbestos tiles.

The layout features a two-storey southern section with a verandah on three sides, while the northern section is single-storeyed. The entrance front is nearly symmetrical, featuring a central gable with kneelers, a clock face, and a projecting panel that reads 'OFFICES'. On the first floor, there are eight sash windows with horns and four-over-four panes, spaced unequally. The ground floor includes nine windows with ornamental cast iron grilles and a doorcase topped with a rectangular fanlight. The building is adorned with moulded quoins and has an attached colonial-style verandah with a moulded cornice, supported by square piers that have moulded capitals and plinths.

The southern part of the west front has two storeys, with five windows on the first floor and eight on the ground floor, also featuring a similar verandah. The northern part is set back and single-storeyed, with its own verandah. The southern part of the east front mirrors this, with two storeys, five windows on the first floor, and four on the ground floor, along with a similar verandah. The northern part here is single-storeyed and does not have a verandah.

Inside, there is a plain, straight flight staircase. One ground floor room retains a moulded cornice, dado rail, and a six-panelled door, but no other original fittings remain.
