Description
The Administrative Offices at Parkhurst Prison were originally part of the Military Hospital built in 1799. This isolated two-storey block faces the main gate and features a timber frame hung with "mathematical" tiles and rusticated quoins. The hipped slate roof has slightly projecting eaves, and the centre of the ridge is topped by an attractive cupola with a clock. The building has five slightly recessed sash windows with glazing bars, a sill band on the first floor, and block sills on the ground floor. The central doorway is framed by an enclosed porch with a round-headed entrance, which may have been added around the same time as Jebb's work. The porch is made of stucco and features a rusticated architrave, voussoirs, keystones, and a cornice with coping above. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing with two windows on each side, similar to those at the front, and the glazing bars remain intact.
