Description
The building comprises a post office and house, originally two separate houses, with a history spanning from the 17th century. The post office section appears externally to have been built in the early 18th century, was refenestrated in the late 20th century, and the "Brooklyn" section in the early 19th century.
The post office is constructed of red brick in English bond, with a tiled roof and a brick chimneystack. It consists of two parallel ranges, two storeys in height, with three windows. The windows are sash windows, including a central blank window on the first floor. Most are early 18th-century 12-pane sashes with thick glazing bars, and the ground floor windows have cambered heads. The right side features a doorcase with a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. The door is a six-panelled door with the top two panels cut away and glazed.
"Brooklyn" adjoins the post office at a right angle and is an early 19th-century L-shaped range. It is stuccoed, except for the brick rear elevation, and has a hipped tiled roof and two cemented chimneystacks. It is two storeys in height with four windows, and the central two window bays project. The windows are four-centred arched with Gothic casements. A trellis-work verandah is present on the ground floor. A Doric doorcase, featuring fluted half columns and a triglyph frieze, is located on the left side, with blank spaces in the adjacent wall. A later 19th-century one-bay brick extension is attached to the right-hand side.
