Description

The Lamp Post Water Trough is located at the junction of Swanmore Road and West Street. It features a cast iron lamp standard situated on an island site, flanked by two curved fronted horse troughs. The base is square with spouts on each side. The shaft has a plinth, with the lower part adorned with four entwined dolphins, while the upper part is octagonal and tapers to a cross bar, decorated with stiff leaf motifs. The lantern is topped with a finial. An inscription on the base indicates that it was presented to the town by Miss Brigstocke in 1888.
