Description
The Former Temperance Hall is a building from the late 19th century, redeveloped from a mid-19th century Nonconformist church. The front elevation is faced with stucco, while the sides are made of brick.
The building has a rectangular shape, oriented east to west, and features a two-storey front elevation. On the ground floor, there is a central doorway flanked by two windows. The modern door is topped by a semi-circular fanlight and is set within a recessed arch. The flanking windows each have a pair of round-headed lights with one-over-one horned sashes, placed under segmental arches with keystones. Above the ground-floor openings, there is a moulded stringcourse. The first floor has a cill course and a plain frieze below it.
On the first floor, a central circular window with a moulded surround is flanked by round-arch blank shallow recesses, with a string course running above these windows. Below the circular window, there is a rectangular recess date panel that reads ‘1884’. The elevation is finished with a parapet that features panelled piers and moulded coping, supported by a moulded cornice with decorative brackets at either end. Within the parapet, there is relief lettering that reads ‘THE TEMPERANCE HALL’. Behind the parapet, the building has a large pitched roof oriented east to west.
