Description
The Grapes Public House, formerly Nos 40 and 41 Upper St James's Street, is an early 19th century building that stands two storeys tall and is constructed of painted brick. It features a gable end slate roof with a bracketed eaves cornice. The façade includes three recessed sash windows with glazing bars and block sills. The central window is a large three-light bow window, also with glazing bars, and is adorned with a plain strips frieze and cornice. Although the shop front at No 40 is modern, it retains a doorway with a semi-circular fanlight. The public house front maintains its original panelled pilasters, brackets, and cornice. Nos 35 to 41 form a group.
