Description
The barn opposite Spanners Close in Chale Green is a structure that dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble and features ashlar quoins. The roof is currently covered with corrugated iron. The barn consists of two sections; the right-hand part is two storeys high and has a gable end that shows tumbling-in. On the first floor, there is a stone mullioned window, and on the ground floor, there is a three-light mullion window. The building has a deep plinth, and the left side includes triangular ventilation slits, one plank door, and one stable door. Access to the interior was not available at the time of the survey. The barn has also been used as a slaughterhouse at some point in its history.
