Description
The Old Barn at Perreton Farm is a barn that dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century for its northern part, while the southern part is from the early 19th century. The northern section is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble with ashlar end quoins and features a slate roof, deep plinth, and blocked triangular ventilation slits. The central cart entrance has been blocked with breeze blocks. The southern part, built in the early 19th century, has a front made of coursed stone rubble, with the rear and side constructed in brick using English bond at the rear and Sussex bond on the side. It has a half-hipped slate roof. The first floor includes one fixed casement window, while the ground floor features a cambered plank door and a Diocletian window. The barn consists of five bays, with a roof supported by slightly angled queen struts and two layers of through purlins.
