Description
The garden wall to Southdown House, located on Old London Road in Patcham, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of cob flints with brick lacing courses and features three horizontal divisions and five vertical divisions, topped with a moulded brick coping. The wall stands approximately 2.2 metres high and stretches about 14 metres in length. The sixth panel, which is nearest to the house, is an addition made in 1964. The wall is complemented by square brick piers that have pyramidal stone caps, and there is a pair of wooden gates flanked by a square brick pier on the other side, which includes a moulded stone cornice and a ball finial.
