Description
These are a group of three terraced cottages dating from the 18th century, located on Old London Road in Patcham, Brighton. The cottages are constructed of flint with brick dressings, and have been rendered with stucco. They have tile roofs.
Number 45 has two storeys and four windows; numbers 45A and 47 each have one window. Number 45 features a stuccoed wing facing south-east and a flint-and-brick canted wing facing north-east. It has a flat-arched entrance and a scattered pattern of window openings, most of which are flat-arched with renewed glazing. There are two small, segmental-arched windows facing Old London Road. Brick bands are present in the flintwork. Numbers 45A and 47 share flat-arched entrances and windows; the entrance to number 47 is set within a segmental arch. A stack rises from the ridge between numbers 45 and 45A.
The interior of number 45A includes an early 17th-century lobby entrance, which may have originally led to a late medieval open hall. The ceiling of the ground floor room is potentially from the early 17th century.
