Description

Terraced houses dating to around 1840. The houses are stucco-faced with slate roofs. Numbers 9 to 12 have “turnerized” detailing. The houses are arranged in groups of two, with the outer bays of numbers 9 and 10, and numbers 11 and 12, slightly set back. Numbers 9 to 12 feature flat-arched entrances flanked by pilasters with console brackets, these supporting first-floor balconies with scalloped balustrades. Number 8 has a flat-arched entrance that returns to Montpelier Villas, along with a late 19th or early 20th century lean-to conservatory addition to the basement and ground floor. Number 13 has a flat-arched entrance that returns to Montpelier Street, with pilasters and an entablature. All windows are flat-arched; the ground-floor windows have French windows that lead onto bracketed balconies with cast-iron railings and a canopy. A storey band is present, and the first-floor windows of numbers 9, 11, and 12 have margin lights, with numbers 9 and 11 also featuring blind boxes. There is a bracketed eaves cornice with paterae to the frieze, hipped roofs, and central stacks. Number 8 has a two-storey canted bay on the return to Montpelier Villas, along with a further three-storey, two-window range to the north, featuring a two-storey canted bay. Number 13 has a two-storey canted bay on the return to Montpelier Street, and a three-storey wing to the north with margin lights to the sash windows on the first and second floors. The interior remains uninspected. Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present to the steps and front gardens.
