Description
35 Russell Square is an early to mid-19th century terraced house situated on the south side of Russell Square. The building is constructed of stucco with a roof concealed by a parapet. It rises to four storeys, featuring a single-window arrangement. The ground floor has flat-arched entrances on either side, flanked by Doric pilasters with overlights and panelled doors of original design. A shop window is located between the entrances, although it is now largely obscured, except for a decorative 19th-century capital to the central mullion. The upper storeys have a canted bay with mullions having stepped capitals. Decorative motifs, possibly in cast-iron, are located flanking the first and second floors, resembling open pilasters. A cornice runs over the second and third floors, with stacks positioned along the party walls. The interior remains uninspected. The building has strong group value alongside other listed buildings within Russell Square.
