TQ3204SW EASTERN ROAD 577-1/42/242 Lamp post in the south courtyard of 02/11/93 Brighton College (Formerly Listed as: EASTERN ROAD Gas standard in the south courtyard of Brighton College)

One of a pair of gas standards, converted to electricity, north of Brighton College's main gateway. Early to mid C19. Cast-iron. Octagonal socle; tapering, twisted shaft; yoke maintenance arm below bell capital embossed with palmettes. Windsor-type lamp of original design, repaired; the ventilator cap of late C20 date. The standard was removed from another site for placement in the main court of the College in the C20.
