Description
This is a lamp post located in front of number 23 Sussex Square in Brighton. It is a gas standard from the mid to late 19th century that was converted to an electric light standard in the early 20th century. The lamp post is made of cast iron and features a fluted tapering shaft that rises from the pavement to a cylindrical impost block. A single maintenance arm extends from the top of the shaft at a right angle. From a rectangular circuit box, a swan-necked arm rises, which has a scroll bracket and a shallow dish reflector.
