Description

This is a lamp post located in front of number 46 Sussex Square in Brighton. It dates from the mid to late 19th century and was converted to an electric light standard in the early 20th century. The lamp post is made of cast iron and features a fluted tapering shaft that rises from the pavement to a cylindrical impost block. A single maintenance arm extends from the top at a right angle to the shaft. Above this, there is a rectangular circular box from which a swan-necked arm with a scroll bracket and shallow dish reflector rises.
