Description
Five lamp posts are located at the west end of Madeira Drive in Brighton. These street lamps date from around 1893, with the brackets and lamps designed around 1935. They are made of cast iron and feature a fluted base with an entry door that displays the municipal coat of arms. The bases of the columns swell and are decorated with acanthus leaves, while the columns themselves are fluted up to two short maintenance arms. Each lamp has a palm-leaf capital, which appears to be a separate fitting but is integrated with two curved brackets that support octagonal spiked lanterns. The space between the brackets is adorned with openwork foliage ornament and is topped with the municipal coat of arms.
