Description

Number 17 is an early 19th-century terraced house on Marine Parade, Brighton. It is constructed of stucco with a slate roof and has a basement, four storeys, and an attic. The house has a single window range facing Marine Parade, and two window ranges on the return elevation to Madeira Place. A full-height segmental bay features tripartite windows on both facades. All windows have flat arches, with original windows on the third floor of the bay facing Madeira Place. The entablatures above the third floor and attic are missing from the segmental bay on Marine Parade, but remain continuous on the return elevation. A blocking course is complete. A flat-arched entrance is situated under a reworked prostyle porch on the Madeira Place return. Balconies with cast-iron brackets and railings are present on the first floor of both bays. Chimney stacks are located at the corner of the building and on the Madeira Place party wall. The interior has not been inspected.
