Description
Nineteen lamp posts located north of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, approximately 30 meters south of the east jamb of the North Gate on Church Street, were constructed around 1835 and later adapted for electricity in the late 19th or early 20th century. These lamp posts are made of cast iron and feature a reeded base that is square at the bottom and chamfered to an octagonal shape. On two opposite sides of the base, William IV's insignia is cast, displaying a crown, the numeral "IV," and the initials "WR." The posts have an octagonal, tapering shaft topped with an octagonal basket capital. The original cage and ventilator are intact, and each post includes a single maintenance arm. Below the reflector, there is a circular clock box inscribed with the letters "BLEECO."
