Description

This is a cast-iron post located on the pavement at the junction of numbers 77 and 78 on West Street in Brighton. It dates back to the 18th century and features decorative acanthus ornamentation on its lower part. This post is the only remnant of a post and chain fence that once stood outside a house previously occupied by Henry and Hester Thrale, who were friends of Dr. Johnson.
