Description
Number 20 is a terraced house located on Middle Street in Brighton, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of yellow brick laid in Flemish bond, with dressings that are likely made of gauged brick but are currently painted over with stucco. The roof is obscured by a parapet.
The house has three storeys and features a three-window range. It includes a prostyle Roman Doric porch and a round-arched entrance with a fanlight and panelled reveals. All the windows are flat-arched, and there is a full-height segmental bay on the left side with two windows on each floor. Only the second-floor windows and the right-hand window on the first floor retain their original shape and sashes. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and a blocking cornice, and it has side stacks. A plaque on the house commemorates that William Friese-Greene conducted his original cinematographic experiments here.
The interior has not been inspected. The property also features cast-iron area railings with spearhead and urn finials.
