Description

St Aubyn's School is a detached house that has been converted into a school. It dates from the early 19th century and features later additions. The building is constructed of brick, stucco, and mathematical tiles, with a slate roof. It has two storeys over a basement and dormers in the attic, with a total of thirteen windows.

The original structure is a double-fronted range with wings that project forward on either side, featuring additional canted ends and a flat-roofed wing to the north. The entrance is flat-arched and is sheltered by a Doric porch that is now partly enclosed. All windows are flat-arched, and there are two-storey segmental bays on either side of the entrance with tripartite windows and mathematical tiles in the spandrels. The ground floor is made of painted brick, while the first floor is stuccoed, with a sill band for the first-floor windows. The building has a moulded cornice and parapet, with a single-window range between the central range and the wings, which have a window on each side of their three faces on both floors. These windows lack architraves but feature a storey band and a continuous cornice from the main range. The dormers are located in the mansard roof over the central range, and there are end stacks with hipped roofs on the wings.

The interior has not been inspected. This building has been used as a school since 1832.
