Description

The School and School House in Daglingworth is a former educational building, possibly designed by James Piers St Aubyn, dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of rock-faced limestone with rusticated quoins and features a red tile roof. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan for the school, with a rectangular house at the southeast gable end that has two projecting gables at right angles on the front.

The school is a single storey, while the house has two storeys and includes side buttresses. The school features four tall three-light stone-mullioned casements, while the house has a four-light stone-mullioned canted bay on the ground floor, a three-light stone-mullioned casement with a relieving arch, and additional two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, with the latter having diamond-leaded panes.

The entrance includes a plank door with strap hinges set back within an open-sided porch that has a hipped roof and two turned wooden balusters, supported by an ashlar wall and a square ashlar column. There is another similar plank door within a basket-headed surround and a relieving arch to the left of the entrance gable. The building is adorned with scalloped terracotta ridge tiling and features a 'pepper pot' ventilator with ogee-arched openings and a finial on the school section.

The house part has some hipped gables, and there are axial and lateral stacks, with a single stack at the rear of the school that has a circular ashlar flue. A hanging for a single bell is located at the northwest gable end of the school room. The interior has not been inspected. St Aubyn is also known for designing Chantry House.
