Description

This is a house located at 8 Lock's Hill in Hove, dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century and early to mid-20th century. The exterior is faced with flint pebbles, featuring brick quoins and a string course, topped by a steeply pitched clay tile roof with coped verges. The central stack was rebuilt in an abbreviated form in the late 20th century.

The house has a two-cell plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The first floor has many paned casement windows from the late 19th to early 20th century, while the ground floor features large window openings with segmental heads. Early to mid-20th century metal windows have been installed in earlier sash window openings. The entrance includes a central 18th-century ribbed plank door, set within a gabled porch that has reused shaped brackets and additional supports. The attic is lit by windows in the gable ends, and there is a single-storey lean-to addition on the right side, covered with a combination of clay tiles and pantiles.
