Description
The buildings at 1-8 George Street are a group of terraced houses, later converted into shops and a public house. They date from the late 18th century and early 19th century and are constructed with mathematical tiles. The roof of number 1 is slate, while the remaining roofs are gambrel roofs covered in tile.
The houses are two storeys high, with a single window visible in each property. Number 1 has a through passage to the right of the shop front. The ground floors of numbers 1 to 6 have shop fronts dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, while numbers 7 and 8 contain a public house, with two flat-arched entrances at the party and end walls, and a single rectangular bay in between. Number 1 has a flat-arched window on the first floor; the others have canted bays with tripartite windows under flat arches. Number 1 has a guttered eaves line, while the others have a cornice. Each house features one flat-arched dormer window. Chimneys are located on the party walls, except between numbers 2 and 3. The interior has not been inspected.
