Description

This is a late 18th or early 19th century house located on the south side of St James's Street in Brighton. It is constructed with mathematical tiles and has a two-span roof also of tile. The house is three storeys high with a dormer window. It originally had a single window on each floor but a nondescript 20th-century shop front has been inserted into the ground floor. The first and second floors feature segmental bays with flat-arched, tripartite sash windows. The windows on the first floor have sashes measuring 6 x 9 panes in the centre and 4 x 6 panes to the sides. The windows on the second floor have sashes measuring 6 x 6 panes in the centre and 4 x 4 panes to the sides. A parapet sits above the second floor, with metal flashing. A single dormer window, also with a flat arch and sashes measuring 3 x 3 panes, is visible in the roof. A chimney stack is located on the left party wall of each roof span. The interior of the building was not inspected during the listing process.
