Description

Numbers 35-45 Norfolk Square are a group of terraced houses dating back to around 1825. They are constructed of stucco with the original rooflines largely hidden by a parapet, though No.37 has a Turner’s roof and No.38 has a tiled roof. The houses are arranged over a basement and three storeys, with dormers added to Nos 37 and 38. Each house has a two-window front, characterised by full-height, almost full-width segmental bays. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication, and there are steps leading to flat-arched entrances with overlights; Nos 36, 38, and 40 have original studded doors, altered with glazed upper panels. All windows are flat-arched and the ground-floor windows of Nos 40 and 42 feature cast-iron window guards. The first-floor windows have blind boxes on Nos 35, 42, and 43, and bracketed balconies with cast-iron railings, except for No.45. A storey band separates the first and second floors, and the building is finished with a cornice and blocking course, with stacks positioned on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected. Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present to the steps and area.
