Description

Numbers 14-24 and attached railings are a row of terraced houses dating from around 1850, with number 24 believed to be of a later date. They are constructed of stucco with slate roofs.

The houses have three storeys over a basement, and include dormers. Each property is three windows wide, and features a full-height, almost full-width, segmental bay. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication. A flat-arched porch, supported by pilasters and an entablature with small disc decoration on the capitals, provides access; the doorcase has an overlight.

All windows are flat-arched. The first-floor windows have architraves, with a pediment over the central window and projecting cornices over the others. A continuous, bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings runs along the first floor. A storey band marks the second floor, which also has architraved windows. A dentil cornice tops the building, followed by a parapet. Dormers are incorporated into the mansard roof of numbers 15-17 and 20-24, and stacks are located in the party walls.

Number 14 has a return elevation with a flat-arched entrance similar to the other houses, and individual cast-iron balconies to the outer first-floor windows. Number 24 has central windows to Powis Square blanked on all floors. The return elevation in Powis Road is five windows wide, with a flat-arched entrance, pilasters and entablature. Canted oriels are positioned on the first and second floors of the principal section of the house, alongside a two-storey porch wing to the south.

The interior of the properties has not been inspected. Cast-iron railings, with spearhead finials, are present at the steps and area. Powis Square is laid out in a 'U' shape, divided at the curve.
