Description
The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts, formerly known as the Gardner Arts Centre, is an arts centre located at the University of Sussex in Brighton. Designed by Sir Basil Spence and built between 1967 and 1969, the building features brick construction with some areas of bare concrete and flat roofs. Its design includes a series of complex multi-segmental circular forms, highlighted by a tall central cylinder with segmental projections, surrounded by lower circles and part-circles. The walls are mostly solid, but some circles have vertical slit windows, and there are horizontal bands of glazing connecting them. The centre also includes a café that overlooks a small segmentally shaped pool. The interior has not been inspected.
