Description
Lower Lodge is a lodge building, likely constructed in the late 18th century and possibly enlarged at the rear in the 19th century. It is built of brick laid in Flemish bond, which is now painted, and has roofs made of graded slate. The building has one storey over a basement and was originally probably designed with a symmetrical three-window range, with an additional bay added to the north.
The layout of the building is T-shaped, with the cross of the T formed by a hipped section facing the road and a slightly projecting gabled centerpiece. The stem of the T is created by a gabled wing at the rear. The corners of the building are marked by quoins made of projecting brickwork. There is a segmental-arched entrance on the left-hand side and segmental-arched windows on the front, with the central window being wider. A brick dentil cornice runs along the top. The details of the quoins, windows, and cornice are also repeated at the back of the building. The additional bay to the north features a parapet, and there is a stack on the rear wing, likely dating from the 19th century, which has oversailing courses. The interior has not been inspected.
