Description
The Chichester Building at the University of Sussex, which includes the Molecular Science I section, the Chemistry Lecture Theatre, and a staircase to the south, was constructed between 1962 and 1965 and designed by Sir Basil Spence. This university chemistry building features red brick and bare, board-marked concrete, with timber windows and flat roofs. It has a courtyard plan with a rotunda attached to the south that houses the chemistry lecture theatre, along with an adjoining flight of steps. The building has two storeys and a basement, characterized by horizontal windows with deep concrete lintels, projecting buttresses between the bays topped by projecting concrete beam ends, and a deep concrete parapet. The interior has not been inspected.
