Description
These are a group of four early 19th-century terraced houses forming numbers 33 to 36 Marlborough Place. Number 33 has a cobble ground floor with brick dressings, all now painted, and a stuccoed upper section. Number 34 is predominantly red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a stuccoed bay. Number 35 is stuccoed, while number 36 is brick, painted, with stucco detailing. The roofs are tiled.
Each house originally had one window, although number 35 and 36 incorporate a basement level. The entrances are flat-arched, and the overlights to numbers 33 and 36 feature decorative glazing. The entrance to number 34 is now blocked. Number 33 has a plain stucco architrave to its entrance, while numbers 34 to 36 have bracketed canopies. Number 34 also has a ‘Chinese Chippendale’ style gate. Numbers 33 to 36 include two-storey canted bays, topped with a modillion cornice; the bay to number 34 was enlarged on the ground floor. Brick dentil cornices are present on numbers 33, 35 and 36, but are missing from number 34. Flat-arched dormers are set into the roof. Chimney stacks are located between numbers 34, 35 and 36. The interiors have not been inspected.
