Description
39 and 40 Meeting House Lane are late 19th-century houses that have been converted into a shop. The exterior is finished in stucco that mimics ashlar stonework, and the roof is obscured by an asphalt-covered parapet. The building is a single storey, with the ground floor now occupied by a single shop. A continuous entablature runs along the top of the shopfronts, ending at the party walls with fluted bracket stops. The shop window at No. 40 retains its late 19th-century design, while the window at No. 39 has undergone significant alterations in the 21st century. These houses are part of an important group of 18th and 19th-century buildings in The Lanes, which includes Nos. 1-12, 22-32, 36-38, 41, and 43-53 Meeting House Lane, highlighting their collective historical significance.
