Description
Numbers 111 and 112 and their attached railings are two early 19th-century terraced houses, now converted into flats, located on the north side of Marine Parade in Brighton. The buildings are constructed of stucco with a slate roof. They are four storeys high with a half basement, and Number 112 features a flat-arched dormer. Each house has three windows. Staircases lead up to the entrances; the staircase to Number 111 has a round arch with a fanlight, while the staircase to Number 112 has a flat arch with an overlight. The ground floor of Number 111 is treated with banded rustication, which transitions into voussoirs and a keystone over the entrance. First-floor windows are round-arched and open onto a balcony with cast-iron railings, supported by a fluted Doric colonnade of five bays that spans both houses. In the 20th century, the first-floor windows were glazed to create front rooms, including one kitchen, for the flats behind. All windows are flat-arched with continuous architraves. The buildings have a cornice and parapet, with stacks located on the party walls. The interiors were not inspected. Original railings are present on the staircases, in the areas, and along the drive. Numbers 111 to 119, and 122 to 133A Marine Parade, together with the whole of Marine Square, form a group.
