Description
Numbers 1 and 2 are a pair of terraced houses dating from around 1825, likely designed by Amon Wilds and Charles Augustin Busby. They are constructed of stucco, with the roof hidden behind a blocking course.
The houses are three storeys high with a basement. Each has two windows facing the street. Number 2 features a round-arched entrance with a fanlight, while Number 1 has a flat-arched entrance. The ground floor of Number 2 is distinguished by banded, chamfered rustication around the entrance. Both houses have a segmental bay of two flat-arched windows on the ground floor; the window guards of this bay, which are made of cast iron, are partially destroyed on Number 1. A continuous first-floor verandah with wooden rails and stanchions spans both elevations, sheltered by a lean-to metal roof. The verandah of Number 2 has been enclosed with modern glazing. Each verandah incorporates a single-storey bay window: Number 1’s bay is segmental and Number 2’s is rectangular, both featuring flat-arched tripartite windows. Number 2’s first-floor bay has a floating cornice above, whereas Number 1 features a triangular bay of two windows above its entrance. All windows are flat-arched with projecting sills. A cornice and blocking course top the facade.
The interior was not inspected during the listing process. Original railings are present on the stairs and areas.
