Description

This is an early 19th-century terraced house, which is now part of the Clarges Hotel. It was refaced in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of stucco, with a slate roof. It has four storeys over a basement and a five-window front. An upper staircase leads to a flat-arched entry with an overlight, set within a simple prostyle porch with a cornice, located on the right party wall. The ground floor features banded rustication. The central three windows are emphasized by a full-height circular bay. All windows are flat-arched, with continuous architraves and projecting sills that are supported by pairs of corbels and floating cornices, except for those on the basement and ground floors. An entablature with a modillioned cornice sits below a high parapet, which is pierced in five sections corresponding to the windows below, and features an arcaded balustrade. A first-floor balcony is supported by cast-iron brackets and has cast-iron railings. The interior of the building was not inspected. Railings are present to the stairs and area. The house is part of an important group which includes numbers 111-119, 122-133, and 133A Marine Parade, along with the entirety of Marine Square.
