Description
Rokesley House (number 122) and Grosvenor House (number 123) are a pair of stucco-fronted terraced houses, built around 1845. They are three storeys and have an attic, with a half basement below. The houses have a four-window facade between them. A two-storey porch was added to the left side of number 122, with stairs leading to two flat-arched entrances framed by Tuscan pilasters and an entablature. The first-floor window above the porch is flat-arched and has an architrave. A prostyle porch with fluted Doric columns and an entablature sits above the entrance to number 123, centrally positioned on the block. A continuous two-storey porch runs across the entire facade. Mid-to-late 19th-century cast-iron railings enclose the ground-floor porch, and a first-floor verandah has a metal concave roof with wooden valences and cast-iron railings and stanchions. Thin pilasters rise from the first floor through the attic, with projecting cornices forming moulded capitals at the corners of the building. The windows in number 122 have continuous architraves to the ground and first floors, while number 123 has them to the ground floor only. Original 9x9 sash windows with margin lights are present in all but the attic, which has 6x6 sashes. The central attic window is blocked and fitted with a metal window guard. A storey band separates the second floor from the attic, and stacks rise between the party walls. The interior was not inspected. Railings are also present on the stairs and to the areas. The entablature of the porch to number 122 bears the inscription "Rokesley House." These properties form a significant group with numbers 111-119, 122-133 and 133A Marine Parade, along with the entire Marine Square.
