Description

Numbers 11 and 12 Crescent Place are early 19th-century terraced houses with stucco facades. The roofs are hidden by a blocking course. The houses are arranged over a basement and three storeys. Each property has a single window fronting the street. Number 12 has a flat-arched entrance with an overlight, accessed through a round-arched porch to the side, featuring an architrave, voussoirs (altered), and a parapet. A staircase leads to the entrance of Number 11, which is round-arched with a fanlight; the original design door remains. A segmental bay, covering the ground floor only, contains two flat-arched windows; the sashes are of the original design for Number 11. A first-floor balcony with cast-iron railings extends from the roof of the ground-floor bay, accessible via French doors. The second-floor has a flat-arched window with a projecting sill. A camber-arched basement window is also present. The cornice runs continuously over both houses and returns at the ends. Stacks are situated on the party wall.

The ground floor of Number 12 was inspected, revealing an entrance and stair hall with a dogleg staircase of original design, featuring a wreathed and ramped wooden handrail and turned wood balusters, including a curtail step. The front ground-floor room has a fireplace of original design on the party wall, characterized by a fluted entablature on plain pilasters, a wreathed urn on a plaque in the centre of the entablature, and a fireback of the same date. The group value of this property lies in its contribution to the architectural character of the area.
