Description

6 Kings Road is a terraced house, now part of the Queen's Hotel, built around 1825 and designed by Amon Henry Wilds. The building is constructed of stucco and has a roof that is obscured by a parapet.

The exterior features three storeys and an attic over a basement, with dormers above. It has a three-window range. The ground floor is rendered with banded, chamfered rustication that transitions into voussoirs and keystones above three segmental-arched openings. The side openings are filled with segmental-arched windows, each with a sill band. Below these, the basement windows are also segmental arched. The central opening leads into a shallow porch that is trapezoidal in plan, with panelled returns. The entrance is flat arched and includes an overlight.

There is a plain entablature band at the ground floor level. Four giant, fluted pilasters rise to the first and second floors, featuring capitals that combine elements of Composite design with Ammonite Shells, a nod to the architect's surname. Above the giant portico is an entablature with a dentil cornice, and the upper fascia of this entablature aligns with the sills of the attic windows. The attic storey has four plain pilasters that align with those below, supporting an entablature above. The parapet is topped with four moulded piers that continue the axes of the pilasters below.

All upper-floor windows are flat arched and have architraves, with the first and second floors featuring moulded, projecting sills. The first-floor windows also have a raised panel in the spandrel below each sill, and above each lintel is an entablature with a boldly projecting cornice. The centre first-floor window is adorned with a deep pediment, while the centre window on the second and attic floors is blocked. The interior has not been inspected.
