Description
The Cottage is a building that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from the late 18th century, with some additions made in the late 19th or early 20th century. The exterior features flint in pitch with painted brick dressings, while the return side is rendered in stucco that is scored to imitate ashlaring. The roof is gambrel and covered with tiles.
The building has two storeys and a basement, with a three-window range and a stack on the end wall. Near the center of the main elevation, there is a segmental-arched entrance framed by brick quoin surrounds. All the windows also have similar surrounds. A full-height brick quoin strip runs along the corner. On either side of the entrance, there are windows, although the heads of both are obscured; the window on the left is narrower than the one on the right. The first-floor windows are flat-arched and align with those below, but the window in the entrance range is blocked. A brick dentil cornice is present, interrupted by the lintels of the first-floor windows. The roof features two flat-arched dormers.
In the late 19th or early 20th century, a timber porch with a lean-to tile roof was added to the ground floor. The ground-floor windows also have bay windows, with the left one being triangular in plan and the right one rectangular. The interior has not been inspected.
