Description

Number 9 is a house that was formerly used as a shop, built in 1794. It features mathematical tiles and has a high hipped roof covered with tiles. The building is three storeys tall with a dormer and has a three-window range. The ground floor is occupied by a 20th-century shop that lacks distinctive features. Above, there are three canted bays with flat-arched, tripartite windows and simple guttered eaves. Some of the first-floor side windows retain original design sashes, with a 2/2 configuration, while the second floor has a 3/6 centre window and 1/2 side windows. The rear elevation has more complete sashes. There are two roof dormers; the left one is larger and has casements, while the right one features sliding sashes of the original 4/4 design. To the left, an off alley leads to two extensions that are at right angles to the main block. A tall brick stack was removed during a late 20th-century restoration, which was previously located between the second and third window ranges. Additionally, there are two rear extensions along the twitten to the left, which step down to flint walls. The interior has not been inspected. The building was used as a bun shop for approximately 150 years by the Cowley family.
