Description

This is a row of terraced houses, dating from around 1845, located on the north side of Buckingham Place in Brighton. The houses were constructed using stucco, with Welsh slate roofing on numbers 5-9 and 19, asbestos slate on number 11, and tiles on numbers 13-17.

The design is of a three-window range, with the outer entrance bay of each house slightly recessed. Each house has a flat-arched entrance with an overlight. All windows are flat-arched, and a bracketed balcony is present on the ground floor, featuring cast-iron railings and a canopy — except for number 7. A window in the middle of number 11 is blank. The original sash windows remain at numbers 5, 9, 11 (ground floor), 13, 15, 17 (except for the window above the entrance), and 19. Numbers 5, 9, and 11 feature margin lights. Bracketed eaves are visible, and the roof is hipped over the projecting parts, with the remaining sections being pitched. Chimney stacks are positioned along the party walls.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The property is surrounded by dwarf garden walls with square piers topped with pediments.

This group value context acknowledges that the buildings contribute significantly to the character and appearance of the surrounding area.
