Description
Numbers 30 and 32 and attached walls are a pair of semi-detached houses, built around 1845. They are constructed of stucco with a roof of asbestos slate.
The houses share a design with those in Montpelier Villas. The front of each house has a single-window range facing Buckingham Place, and a three-window range to the side. A broader rear section extends to two windows, with the main entrance positioned in the angle between the two parts. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication. Steps lead to a flat-arched entrance, above which is an overlight flanked by pilasters supporting console brackets that support a first-floor balcony with a scalloped balustrade. A canted bay window extends across the ground floor front of each property, with a balcony supported by octagonal columns and cast-iron railings. A canopy covers the bay window of Number 32, but is missing from Number 30. The front part of the houses has flat-arched first-floor windows, with the first two windows on the return side blank. The rear section has a canted bay window on the ground floor; the first floor of Number 30 features varied window placement, while Number 32 has a single, blank window. The eaves are supported by console brackets with paterae between. The roofs are hipped, with ridge stacks and a stack on the party wall. Stuccoed balustrades line the approaches to the entrances; the balustrade of Number 30 is level, while the one for Number 32 rises up steps.
The interior of the houses was not inspected.
The garden walls are constructed of knapped flint in panels of red brick with stucco coping. The square gate piers are of brick and stucco, gabled for Number 30 and pedimented for Number 32.
