Description
This is a house dating from around 1820, located on Buckingham Place in Brighton. It is constructed of stucco, with the roof hidden behind a parapet. The house is four storeys high, with a half-basement level, and has a five-window front, with a double-fronted design. Steps lead up to a porch featuring Greek Doric columns set within an enclosed form, a cornice, and a blocking course, topped by a flat-arched entrance with an overlight. All the windows are flat-arched and lack mouldings. A bracketed balcony with cast-iron railings is present on the first floor. The building features a dentil cornice above the second floor, and a secondary cornice and parapet, with side chimneys. The house has been extended to both sides: a single-storey wing to the right, and to the left, a narrower two-storey wing and a wider single-storey wing, all detailed to match the original building and featuring cast-iron railings to the parapets. The interior has not been inspected. High stucco garden walls enclose the property, with square, corniced gate piers marking the boundaries. The building is of group value within the local streetscape.
