SU86SW DUKES RIDE 674-1/17/152 (South side) Dormitory block, north east of the east end of the Chapel at Wellington College

GV II

Dormitories. 1866 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. MATERIALS: Red brick in English bond. Slate mansard roof with central louvred turret. PLAN: Long rectangular plan. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. Symmetrical west front. Sash windows with glazing bars. Arcaded cloister on ground floor of 14-bays with round-arched heads, end bay on right narrower and smaller. Above this moulded cornice and string course at first floor window sill level. Moulded eaves cornice. Windows on first floor have recessed brick surrounds with segmental heads and keystones. Centre window flanked by pedimented niches that on left with bronze statue. Blind window recess at right hand end. Attic windows are of single light and 2-lights alternately with pediments over, those over single light windows are semicircular. INTERIOR: not inspected. Dormitory block forms the east side of the large court. The south side is enclosed by the chapel (qv) and the west by Wellington College (qv).
